【摘要】:Thispracticeissuitedideallyforscreeningsamplesforthepresence,relativeconcentration,andpotentialclassofignitableliquidresiduesinfiredebris.Thisisaverysensitiveseparationprocedure,capableofisolatingsmallquantitiesofignitableliquidresiduesfromasample,thatis,a0.1x03BC;Lspikeofgasolineonacellulosewipeinsideofa1-galcanisdetectable.Actualrecoverywillvary,dependingonseveralfactors,includingadsorptiontemperature,containersize,competitionfromthesamplematrix,ignitableliquidclassandrelativeignitableliquidconcentration.Becausethisseparationtakesplaceinaclosedcontainer,thesampleremainsinapproximatelythesameconditioninwhichitwassubmitted.Repeatandinterlaboratoryanalyses,therefore,maybepossible.Sincetheextractionisnonexhaustive,thetechniquepermitsreanalysisofsamples.ThispracticeisintendedforuseinconjunctionwithotherextractiontechniquesdescribedinPracticesE1385,E1386,E1388,E1412,andE1413.Theextractisconsumedintheanalysis.Ifamorepermanentextractisdesired,oneoftheseparationpracticesdescribedinPracticesE1385,E1386,E1412,orE1413shouldbeused.1.1Thispracticedescribestheprocedureforremovingsmallquantitiesofignitableliquidresiduesfromsamplesoffiredebris.Anadsorbentmaterialisusedtoextracttheresiduefromthestaticheadspaceabovethesample.Then,analytesarethermallydesorbedintheinjectionportofthegaschromatograph(GC).1.2Thispracticeisbestsuitedforscreeningfiredebrissamplestoassessrelativeignitableliquidconcentrationandforextractingignitableliquidfromaqueoussamples.1.3Thispracticeissuitableforextractingignitableliquidresidueswhenahighlevelofsensitivityisrequiredduetoaverylowconcentrationofignitableliquidresiduesinthesample.1.3.1Unlikeothermethodsofseparationandconcentration,thismethodrecoversaminimalamountoftheignitableresiduespresentintheevidence,leavingresiduesthataresuitableforsubsequentresampling.1.4AlternateseparationandconcentrationproceduresarelistedinSection2.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
